Mike and I have been working on our branding as well while recording and mixing Local Animality. This began way back in February when we hit up one of our favourite local artists Freak Street to design our logo for us. We sent him 90's cartoon reference picture and a colour pallet that we thought would work and he sent us back this design...
We were pretty stoke as we can use just the text or the whole thing. We are also considering making this the album cover as well! we would just reach out to Freak Street again to add "VOL. 1" on the front as well.
So with this as one of the only visual inspirations we had for the project Mike and I had to think pretty hard about how we wanted to translate our aesthetic on to Instagram. This is also hard because we are still figuring this out at the moment but we defiantly have a way better idea of what we want this branding and album and project as a whole to look like.
We are super lucky to be working closely with a graphic design that we pay who also happens to be my house mate Casey. We wanted someone to help us with our social media and posters etc that we could contact and work closely with. I have been a fan of Caseys art since she moved in and has worked with some really cool artists in the music scene that we really like such as The Chats, Dicklord and Clowns. Caseys main thing is collage and animation so we wanted these elements to be apart of the branding as well.
I sent Casey a mood board on Pinterest of some ideas that we had for the collages/ animations. We want to make the account really Brisbane not only for music but in general by using old footage and photos of the city mixed in with our content.
Here is some screen shots of the Pinterest board I sent...
We had a few brain storming sessions and Casey made some mock posts up for us like this one...
Then we brain stormed more and kind of left our faith in Casey to make us some cool Brisbane related posts for our account...
We have decided to post photos and videos that we have taken while tracking with the bands and have reached out them them to ask their permission. This is what the instagram account looks like so far...
We are super stoked with how the content is coming along. We just need to keep posting and following bands ad sharing local Brisbane stuff to keep growing the traction on this page.
Some Ideas that we have for future post include bio posts that Casey will include a photo or two of us collaged with out bio in in the post also. We have some ideas for the inner sleeve of the vinyl also. We have sent Casey a drop box link to all our favourite photos from the tracking process of the project for her to include as a big collage. She has done something similar for The Unknowns this year for their vinyl launch.
Casey even has a story highlight for us yay!
We are keen to get her to help us out with some posters and stickers as well as our merchandise when we have a more solid idea!
Thanks for checking out the non audio related post today!
