This week I am blogging about some of the things I want to learn rather than reflecting on things I have. With my upcoming project I have decided that I will sort of fly solo and get help from my peers where they can as everyone already had ideas for groups and I was very motivated to do what I am keen to learn about. So… my project will entail recording my friends band called The Jang. They are a psychedelic rock band that are up and coming in Brisbane and have a eggy interesting sound that I would love to record as they don’t have any recordings as of yet because they are a pretty new band.
Here is my PPP plan with tables of events and things I'll need for the recording process of The Jang’s EP.
So the process will involve two main recording sessions one for the instrumental and one for vocals. The first recording is taking place next Monday night and I will have two other people there too help with the recoding. Mike and Jordan have offered their help so that I can have some extra hands and opinions while recording next week. I have two sessions booked for next week 7 hours on Monday night and 4 on Wednesday to complete (hopefully) the recoding side of this project. I have all my scope sorted and my PPP plan with equipment lists and time schedule.
Here is a diagram of how the Live room will be set up tomorrow night
Here is a list of all the microphones I need and where they will go
My microphone choices I have made through recommendation from experts, through experience using them or for aesthetic purposes.
This is the time schedule that I hope we are able to stick to tomorrow
In tomorrows session I will need to focus and make sure I have everyones tasks in check. I think it will be easy to work out when we get there tomorrow who can do what as I want to mostly work the desk.
Set up jobs:
Mike- Desk on, help set up session, help with patch bay and head phone mix (before band get there)
Jordan- help band set up in live room and ill help put up all the microphones, help with desk if needed
Me- make sure live room is set up effectively and talk to the band about where they want tot stand if it is different for my original plan. Set up desk, tweak anything that I want done differently, make sure everything sounds good in practice takes. Work the patch bay with the head phone mix and reverb
Although I have all the microphones organised I need to have some alternatives to the ones I want incase they are out of the tech department. I have some alternatives such as MXL A-55 Kicker for the Kick drum, NT2A for vocals, Neumann U87 for guitar and The Drum mic kit for alternatives as well.
I am excited and nervous for tomorrow but I think with the panning I've done and the people have coming in to help I will be able to succeed in tomorrows session and get the bass, drums and guitar recorded for the three songs.
