I participated in this SYNERGY this trimester. It was a cool experience as I have never been to an event like this at SAE so it was cool to be apart of it also. I got some feed back from other students and lecturers.
I think the best part about it was playing my session and people coming in and asking about what I was doing and how I did it and why. It was cool just being like 'I recorded and mixed this half because I have to but totally because I wanted to and I'm really proud of it'. I liked seeing what everyone else had made and well and I feel everyone was in their element talking about the projects they had completed. I think that there was more of an emphasis on the animation and games projects. It made me want to make some more soundscape sort of audio assets. I think this is something I want to get into more. I have only really been noticing how much audio enhances film, animation and games since this trimester. I believe I have really started to think differently about audio and I feel that I am constantly listen while I watch movies, TV etc. I think it would be super cool to get more involved in making audio for film because it is so important!
Moreover, the feed back I got from Adrian, David and Rose was really helpful. Rose showed me how to do a few different things in Pro Tools regarding having an organised session. This is something I know I need to work on. I had a lot of tracks in the session that were muted but I didn't want to get rid of them. Rose showed me how to hid them from the main window but you can make them active as you need. Adrian pointed out that there were some clashing frequencies and that there was a lack of mid range. But other than that it was a well rounded mix. Dave came in and had a listen and gave me some feed back regarding the quality of this project he said that it would be the equivalent to a tri 2 project and I was like 'cool'. He didn't really elaborate as to why. Anyways, Carter Pierce came in and had a listen to the tracks also. He duplicated the project session I had opened and talked me through as he made some adjustments to EQ's and busses. This was super helpful and I learnt a lot from him about how mixing can get to a stage where its hard to make adjustments. This is where I felt I was at. Carter and Cab both suggested that I try and make it sound bigger when I asked how to this they advised I set up some more busses for reverb and delay to send all the vocals too. I found this conversation to be very informative and it was cool to see how other students in later trimesters work and how much they have learnt. I will defiantly implement some of Carter and Cab's advice when I'm doing my next mix for this project and future projects.
Thats a warp on SYNERGY and this year! YAY!
